A public space where water can be experienced up close.

The Deutzer Hafen in Cologne is currently one of the city's major urban development projects. A sustainable, mixed-use district for living and working is being created here in the city centre, which captivates people with its special harbour charm.

The Deutzer Hafen harbour area is being developed as an
urban district.

Invigorating uses – especially on the ground floors – will attract people, and the promenade around the harbour basin will invite them to take a stroll. Stairs leading down to the harbour will create opportunities for a chat with colleagues or a catch-up with friends.

Large parks and sheltered courtyards provide quiet retreats in the neighbourhood. The nearby Poller Wiesen present themselves as a spacious leisure and recreation area directly on the Rhine.

Deutz Hafen has been awarded a pre-certificate in PLATINUM by the ”Deutschen Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.” (DGNB). Even before its realisation, the new quarter has met the criteria catalogue with an overall fulfilment rate of 83.3 per cent. The grades for ‘socio-cultural and functional quality’, ‘ecological quality’ and ‘process quality’ were particularly high. The plan, which was developed by the international architecture firm Cobe Copenhagen on the basis of the Integrated Plan and is being implemented by the Cologne urban development company moderne stadt GmbH and the City of Cologne, aims to achieve an even higher level of fulfilment in its implementation – for example, through an innovative energy concept from the municipal utility company RheinEnergie AG.

The Deutzer Hafen covers an area of 37.7 hectares. A planning area of this size is rarely available in such a central location in a densely populated city – and thus represents a huge opportunity for Cologne. At the same time, Deutzer Hafen is a quarter for creators. Investing in this environment also represents a commitment to new forms and a diverse expression of one's own corporate culture: architecturally sophisticated, ecological, sustainable and realised in a special location. The site 07 quarter plays a key role here, because it allows the pioneers of the new district to realise conceptual showcase projects in a prominent location.
